Can Superfeet Insoles Improve Your Golf Swing?

Improve your golf swing

Every year we look at several new insole brands and as yet we still find Superfeet to be the best all round brand. From awesome products to excellent customer service, they have it all. Despite this, fans of Superfeet would regularly ask us if the award-winning insoles can improve their golf swing, and we couldn’t honestly say yes or no.

Logically you would assume that if your feet are in a better position, then your body alignment will be better, and that would positively impact on your golf swing. But there was no real proof…until now.

The Evidence

A recent study conducted at Loughborough University looked at the effect of orthoses (specifically Superfeet insoles) on the subject’s golf swing as well as shot distance and club head velocity. The results were very interesting and positive for the use of insoles in golf shoes. Basically out of 26 test subjects, analysed over 3-5 rounds of golf, there was an overall improvement in performance; here are the key improvements:

  • Club head velocity increased by 3 mph
  • Which resulted in an average extra 11 yards of ball carry
  • Reduction in unwanted ball spin, resulting in a reduction of hook and slice by 4 yards from the target ball path.

This is what the golfers thought:

  • 100% of the participants reported increased comfort, thanks to the insoles.
  • 100% of the participants reported they felt more stable with the insoles.
  • 91% of the participants stated that the insoles reduced their fatigue.
  • 78% of the participants felt the insoles improved their swing.

All  of the participants would continue to wear Superfeet in their golf shoes and recommend them to friends

Why try Superfeet for your Golf Shoes?

Based on the above data, there are several benefits to wearing Superfeet insoles in your golf shoes. Taking into account our experience in-store, as well as the above data here are the main reasons why Superfeet could transform your game:

Increased comfort underfoot As your foot will be held in a better position and will be better cushioned.

Reduction in aches and pains – We know that by correctly supporting the foot, customers are less likely to experience the aches and pains that can come with being on your feet for hours on end.

Lower chance of Injuries – When you align the feet better, there is almost always a reduction in the possibility of lower body injuries. Golf shoes offer very little correction to the feet and won’t reduce pronation (the inwards roll of the foot). This is where Superfeet can help as they angle and support the rearfoot as well as the arch; resulting in a much more stable foot position.

Increased performance – Not only does the Loughborough study show increased performance, but many of our customers have also described that Superfeet have helped improve their game overall.

Which model is best for Golf?

Superfeet offer a wide selection of insoles, and whilst most of these would be ok for golf, a handful of the models are much better suited. We normally recommend the Superfeet Pain Relief or Run comfort max. As they are a great all-round insole, particularly for support, as well as being very well cushioned.

Another great model for golf is the Superfeet Carbon. This is one of the newest insoles in the Superfeet range, and it takes advantage of a carbon fibre base for lighter support that takes up a lot less space in your shoes. This model is ideal if your shoes already fit quite closely, but you want the added benefit of a Superfeet insole.

Occasionally neither of these will be suitable for your foot shape or type. This is where we would look at another model or even recommend the Superfeet custom molded insoles. These are heated and vacuum molded to your foot, so you take away an insole that is shaped specifically for your foot. This is the ultimate option for those who take their comfort and performance seriously, and something that can only be done in-store by our highly trained staff.

So if you suffer from any aches or pains when you play golf, or are simply looking to add a few extra yards to your drive, then why not pop in-store and talk to us about Superfeet. It always to bring your golf shoes if you would like a pair fitted as we can cut them to fit your golf shoes perfectly.
